01The geography
The ground changes a lot in forty miles
Whatcom County is not one kind of septic market. The wooded slopes east of Bellingham drain very differently to the flat farmland around Lynden and Sumas, and neither behaves like the shoreline lots at Birch Bay and Blaine.
What that means practically is that the same symptom points at different causes depending on where you are. Soggy ground over a drain field in February on flat Lynden farmland is usually groundwater. The same thing on a well drained wooded lot is usually the system.
We work the whole county and we know which is which.

Four places with something specific to say
These four have their own page because the ground genuinely behaves differently in each of them, not because the keywords justified it.
Bellingham
The city is largely on sewer, the edges are not. Yew Street, Chuckanut, Lake Whatcom and out toward the county line.
Lynden
Farmland and acreage with a high winter water table. Drain fields here work hard from November onward.
Ferndale
Flat, poorly draining ground close to the river. Systems here are sensitive to how the whole yard drains.
Blaine and Birch Bay
Shoreline and border properties, where systems close to the water face closer scrutiny.

Nooksack
Rural acreage next to Everson, similar ground and the same winter saturation problems.

Border town on very flat land with a high water table and a history of flooding.
Deming
Up the Mount Baker Highway. Rural properties on well and septic, rockier ground, longer drives.
Birch Bay
Dense shoreline community where a lot of older systems sit close to the water.
Sudden Valley
Inside the Lake Whatcom watershed, which brings extra scrutiny for anything near the reservoir.
Custer
Rural properties between Ferndale and Blaine. Flat, and wet through the winter.
Point Roberts
The exclave south of the border. Entirely on septic, and genuinely awkward to service, which is exactly why we say so here.

Long gravel drives, soft winter ground, gated properties and Point Roberts are all normal for us. Tell us about the access when you book. It changes what we bring, not whether we come.
